Hello Neighbors,
I want to inform you of a recent attempted home invasion committed on my home on Meadowcroft on April 13, 2016 at approximately 3:10am. I was awoken by repeated violent poundings against my front door. The perpetrators fled when I turned on my lights and shouted through the door. After which I called 911. The police officer arrived promptly but did not see any suspects. We were able to find evidence of the crime in the form of a large footprint on the door. After taking my statement the office departed. As my adrenaline was pumping and I was in a slightly agitated state, I was unable to fall asleep and was in a heightened state of awareness. At approximately 3:55am, I heard strange loud sounds coming from outside my home. After a brief investigation, I was able to determine it was the sound of someone “cawing” (making a bird call) nearby, although I was unable to locate the actual location or direction. I promptly called 911 and the officer returned. Again, he was unable to find any suspects in the general vicinity. After some thought, I believe the suspects may have been hiding out somewhere nearby, possibly some bushes, beneath/behind a car, or maybe a backyard, and the “cawing” was some sort of signal that the coast was clear. This is disconcerting to say the least.
I’m unsure if any of you have experienced any similar situations, but the fact is, this is third time my property has been victimized. My truck was vandalized one time, the tailgate was stolen once and now this incident. There is one common thread with each of these situations that causes me concern: when each incident occurred, I did neglect to follow my standard “security” checks to ensure my truck was secure and my outdoor lights were on. This causes me to suspect there may be nighttime prowlers who are watching and/or trying to burglarize homes and vehicles in our neighborhood and we just may not be aware.
I will be upgrading my security after this incident and I will be reviewing nighttime footage periodically for prowlers. I will provide any information/video I gather to the police. Unfortunately, it may be something you may want to undertake as well.
I ask you to remain vigilant, be safe and secure your family and property.
Thank you,
Daniel Castro Jr.
