 I understand that we are tyring to begin a Block Watch program. I was tlaking to a friend from Richmond Va and this is what they have done:

It is a Yahoo Group site. Neighbors can post anything they want. We use direct email and phone calls in the event of a crime alert. We also send out monthly newsletters. I think the Neighborhood Watch has helped. Last summer we were bombarded with vandalisms and a few more serious crimes. This summer (knock on wood) has been nice and quiet.We've had a few functions and have gotten to know one another. It's been great.

I Like the idea of email notices. I dont know how many people access this website though it is a good start and I appreciate thsoe who work on it.

I think the more we get to know each other the better too.

What all does it entail?

The Neighborhood watch Captain works with Block Captains to organize and communicate.

That person needs to have email to receive information from the Metro Police Neighborhood Watch officer and send them information.

We have on person willing to be a block captain but she does not have email so phone work will be necessary for contacting her.

Of course it involves being vigilant watching your neighbors yards. Once we have block captains the Police will provide training.
