My family and I moved to Salem Woods about 4 years ago. We had heard so many great things about the neighborhood and were very excited to raise our children in what seemed to be a great community. Don't get me wrong, I like the neighborhood, but I have to admit that I am extremely disappointed in the school district. I guess I'm wondering how other parents feel about the referendum not passing? Thurgood Marshall is great, but I'm not sure about busing my child to Bayard in the fall. Is anyone else as worred about our children as much as I am? What are our options? Do we have any, other than paying big bucks for private school?

Worried Parent
I to had the same concerns, and tried to get my children choice out to the local Charter schools, but they had wait list. So both of my children attended Bayard and I can say the expr. was OK. Just had to get by day by day on that bus ride on I-95, after that, I found the teachers in the school wonderful and the administration office always available when I called for assistance, even when they had early releases, I was able to securely get to the school and get them out of class without any problems. We also attend many field trips and found the children very respectful and the teachers were very attentive.

missing out
my children this year are finally out of the ''in town'' schools and let me tell you i am rejoicing. We didn't get to enjoy the school or their functions. By the time we got home it was too late to fight the traffic to go in town to participate in anything. It was the most frustrating school years ever. To take the children to a dental or medical appointment, i would have to use a 1/2 day vacation so i could get to the school, get them to their appointment, take them back to school and me back to work. It took a 1/2 day....it's a shame because you want to be involved with the school and have the children do the extra cirrucular activities but they made it impossible. Hang in there because soon they will be going to schools around where you live and things will be how they should be!

Dont worry
I hated the idea of my daughter going all the way to Wilmington. It is difficult on the extra activities, appointments and bus time but she is doing really well there. There were a few issues with her at the end of last year but Mrs. Spect too GREAT care of it and me. I can't wait until they can get back to neighborhood schools for my younger kids but its not the end of the world.
