For all the problems of this past week I am sorry. All I can tell the people effected by the ice is that I did everything in my power to make the right call.
Things to consider:
First the 75 SWMC dues do not only cover snow plowing. There are many other aspects to the MC that our 75 dollars covers.
Second As president of the MC I feel it is my duty to spend your money wisely.
Third This storm was not a snow event it was an ice event and snow plows do not remove ice.
Forth The state only refunds some of our expenses if there is 4 inches of snow. So any expenses we incured would have been on us 100%
Five Salt cost 400 dollars a ton to have put on our streets with the ice storm we had it would require about 20 tons of salt. Thats 8 thousand dollars.
six Once the contractor made there mistake it became impossible to correct because what was a slush mix in the afternoon froze solid by the next day.
seven In an effort to resolve the problem as best it could I was forced to cut a deal with the contractor but it was not going to be a total satisfaction.
eight I will not be involved with the SWMC when the summer arrives which is when it will be time to hire a contractor for snow removal. At that time the community needs to make a call as to who they use.
I will be moving from Salem Woods this spring, so I will no longer be involved. But trust me on this finding a contractor is not easy and not cheap. Worse yet is until they come to do the job you really don't know what you are getting.
Even though I am leaving Salem Woods I have loved living here and love the people who have stepped up to help. So I will be more than willing to help those in charge in any way I can.
