President's Corner

Posted in: Jefferson Heights
Just a note to let you know that the Jefferson Heights Association continues to meet each 2nd Thursday of the month at the Claude Black Community Center.

I thank each of our Chartered Association Members and thanks to the Canton Street Guild which continues to bring the spirit of the Jefferson Heights community forward.

The Jefferson Heights Association continue to enjoy success in providing not only for our immediate community but partnerships with other like-minded communities throughout this nation.

Moreover, we not only concern ourselves with streets and drainage but with all quality of life issues and human development. Since we know what it's like to settle for status quo and not take part in disinvestment of our inner city community.

We have been looked over far to long while decissions and policies are being made about the future of our Jefferson Heights community and our children children futures.

I employ each of us to become actively envolved in our government by serving on Boards, Commissions, Committees, and volunteering your time. We can continue to make a difference in our community.

I look forward in serving you as President and ensuring that we hold not only ourselves accountable but those we elected to represent us. We will continue to work with others to ensure that we actively participate in leveraging dollars designated for our inner city community from immediate sources like the Advance Transportation District (ATD)with the City of San Antonio (Public Works), VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority (VIA), Texas Department of Transportation (TxDot), and Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO).

We will continue to be at the table when decisions are being handed out and we definately will require our government to reflect our views by becoming transparent and inclusive! Our Empowerment Zone dollars of $230 Million have not seen any implementation in our community thus far; just like the $12.1 Million allocated to projects on E. Houston Streets from CPS Overhead & Underground Utility Conversion Fund have left our inner city community and we will continue to demand our entitlement of public funds!

I pray that the vision I have for this community will be shared by each of you as we continue to work with the limited resources available to us. We have made and continue to make great strides like we've never seen before in our community from infrastructure to rehabilitation of our existing housing.

Conclusively, as we continue to speak positively about our Jefferson Heights community you will begin to see the profound effects your words have on each of our lives! Life and death is indeed in the power of our words. Do all you can to play an active role not only in your home but in your community. Make use of all tools available. Remember, Together Each Accomplish More! This spells TEAM!
