Trash Pilot

Posted in: Redland Woods
When the city first began speaking with the HOA regarding the trash pilot, the Board had questions concerning the size of the trash cans and where residents would store them. We were told that placing the cans in front of homes is a city code violation and that would be addressed in the pilot. We explained that the storage of trash cans had not been an issue for our association
I requested that the code issue be held off for a time. We were in the vacation season and people could be away and not available to store their cans. I also asked that they wait until after our next newsletter (mid September) so that the residents could be advised again of the storage issue. I requested that no action be taken on this issue until October. This would give residents time to read the newsletter item and make arrangements for storage.

This is a city issue and is part of the pilot. The Board cannot stop code compliance from addressing this issue. The Board has taken what steps we can with cooperation from the city to delay any enforcement of this issue so that all residents can be informed. We have also asked that rather than a citation, warnings be issued initially.
The storage issue is a matter for each homeowner. The HOA cannot change city code nor stop it from being enforced. We realize this is a change, but it is one to which we all have to adapt. It is our understanding that this pilot is not going away, but will be rolled out to the rest of the city over time.
