With the growth in the area, including major planned communities, has VWOA considered what it needs for VOW to compete as a desirable community? Sorry, VWOA, the community center you've been trumpeting for the past decade isn't even close!
VOW is 20 years old, and as such, the community ''amenities'' are outdated. Has VWOA looked at what newer communities have to offer, and considered what it would require to update VOW?
Sidewalks: Newer communities have wide sidewalks, not to mention bike lanes and/or hike-and-bike trails (the loop trail at the sports park doesn't count!). VOW's broken, narrow concrete footpaths are often covered with rocks, mud and debris and blocked by utilities gates left ajar. Pedestrians must often brush away tree branches that hang at eye level or weeds that extend into the walking space. It's unsafe for joggers, impossible for strollers and not even wide enough for two schoolchildren to walk side-by-side. Are the sidewalks even ADA compliant?
Greenbelts: Other communities have greenbelts that are actually broad, green spaces, therefore worthy of the name. VOW has ugly expanses of tangled trees and overgrowth which harbor feral animals that venture into the neighborhoods in search of food and mates, injuring pets and people.
Parks: ''Pocket Parks'' are popular features of newer communities. It would have been nice to have reserved a lot in each of the villages for a small park. The sole playground at the sports park falls short, with outdated, unsafe equipment and few shady spots; hardly worth the trip. My family doesn't use it -- we prefer the newer equipment and better variety at the elementary school.
I'd like to know what VWOA is doing to determine the viability of upgrades, as well as the budget allocated for improvements.
