School Crossings

Posted in: Woodlake-San Antonio
I am concerned that the newsletter is talking about new crosswalks and a lot of improvements to the safety of our children. But has anybody noticed the sign about the new school being built in the area of the new homes on Foster across from the Korner Store? We should be taking that into consideration when we talk about new crosswalks. Some of the children currently attending Woodlake might be attending the new school. When is it scheduled to be opened, who is goning to attend, where are the dividing lines? Don't you think these things should be found out before we start drawing crosswalks that maybe aren't in the right places? This is like the Woodlake "Raceway" Parkway boondoggle. Rushing in without all the facts. We are a large homeowners assoc. and should be able to get the facts and then make informed decisions that will help keep our children safe.
We do our homework.

Yes, I agree with you that we do need to do research and planning before decisions are made. The school crossings issue has been a topic for several years. The main concern has been the crossings on Lakeview Dr. Even when the new elementary school is built someday this will not lessen the need for crosswalks for kids that attend Woodlake Elementary. It will still be open and incidently, the current enrollment has grown to over 800 students. So the WHA Board is working with the county officials on a continual basis and what we try to accomplish is hopefully always in the best interest of the MAJORITY of the residents in Woodlake. Also, there is an article in the September WHA newsletter with an update on what the county plans to do on the Woodlake Park/Speedway. I hope this information helps you. Thanks for your interest.

You are so correct

There seems to be much "ready-shot-aim" appraoch to alot around here. I have watched very closely since the county has spent the money for the crossing indicators. I have seem not one child walking where they should, they are always out on the streets and or j walking. Bikes noton the sidewalks but on the streets, walkers on the streets and not on sidewalks or at the crossing. And yet there are curbs all around this neighborhood that are damaged that people trip over all of the time, that need repaired.
