For the entrance gate / code change / security issue - an option to consider ... leaving the pedestrian gates unlocked and ask parents/homeowners to not give the codes to their children and visitors; so the codes won't be compromised to non-resident friends and acquaintances sharing the bus ride home from High School or the walk from Tejeda Middle School. The disadvantage would be some concern for security and possible vandalism. This possibility will exist even if all gates are locked. All neighborhoods, those with restricted access and others that do not have gates have security concerns caused by pedestrians. What does a locked gate actually accomplish for good people and for those with bad intentions?
A compromise that allows for pedestrian flow and reduces gate vandalism and code compromise might make more sense than locking the pedestrian gates, and living with the compromised codes, kids using vehicular gate, allowing more access to other cars, possibly more breakage of the pedestrian gate locks. All the effort and problems of locking the gates seems less valuable than leaving the pedestrian gates unlocked.
