Encourage pedestrian activity

Posted in: Encino Rio
One common factor in good neighborhoods is a large number of pedestrians, a community that encourages walking, and resources that enhance the experience of walking throough your neighborhood. Not just children, but adults, dog owners, seniors, singles, parents, joggers, bicyclers, teen-agers, guests visiting curiouos about the neighborhood, families - whatever title fits your situation for being on the street ... out and engaging... aware of their surroundings...like cleanliness, traffic volume, normal vehicular speeds, trash cans, drainage;...condition and care of common resources like mailboxes, pool, gates, entrances, signage and roads; also Identifying hazards, graffiti, inoperative street lights, possible vandals loitering, potholes in the street, alleyway gate left open or stray animals. Do you walk to pick up your mail?

Good deterrents to potential crime are awareness, lights and other people out in their neighborhood. Most residents only transit the neighborhood in their vehicles and miss much of what is our community. I want to try to change that.
