Did you see the WOAI Trouble-Shooters report (about May 18th) about how SWISD spent about $18 1/2 THOUSAND to send 11 people to a school board convention in Tampa, Florida? That was MORE THAN TWICE what any other San Antonio school district spent (even the rich districts).
SWISD only has 7 members on the school board and 1 did NOT go; so who were the other 5 people who went (which the district taxpayers paid for)? Are we paying to send the husbands and wives down for a ''vacation''?
WOAI also mentioned a receipt for a meal - running about $60 per person (which the taxpayers paid for). Do you think that is extravagent or OK?
Do you think the board should have WRITTEN RULES AND PROCEDURES to insure that any district person who takes a trip for ''district business'' doesn't abuse the privilege?
Do you think the people who spent such amounts on meals should pay the district (and the taxpayers) back?
Do you think that any wives or husbands who went along should pay for their own costs?
Do you think the 1 board member who cancelled, after costs had been paid, should re-imburse the district (& taxpayers) the $595 conference registration fee and any other charges paid in advance?
How many SWISD board meetings have you attended? They are the 3rd Tue of each month (even during the summer) at 6 PM, at the SWISD Central Administration Bldg. Citizens can sign up to speak (for 3 min) at the start of the meeting to ask questions or make comments? Have you ever spoken to the board? Are you going to speak, call, or write to the board about this issue: or keep your mouth shut - and let this type of thing continue?
Just curious.
