How about posting the association rules on the website? And, even better, how about having someone translate them into plain English? I'm thinking of something that residents could access for quick reference regarding things like replacing/moving a fence, putting in a backyard storage building, paint colors (are any colors too ''out there'' to be acceptable?), any rules regarding landscaping, adding a deck or other outside structures...

After moving into the neighborhood almost two years ago, I asked for a copy of association rules. Still haven't received them. How about making the rules accessible and understandable?

Beckyn, you make good points here. First the ''rules'' are the covenents which are attached to your property and certainly the title firm who handled the sales transaction with you provided then to you at closing. I think they deal with the bylaws of the homeowners association (I do not have them in front of me right now.) They are in English but not in a tabular format like you suggest. I will be happy to get mine out and post some ideas here in subsequent replies. The covenants are public record so that can be put at our web site here if enought people indicate that (there is some typing to the job to get them posted). Shoot some ideas and I can help work on them as you and others suggest. Calling any member of the board of directors or Ms Marisela DeLeon will be another path. Please respond with more ideas and suggestions.

Thanks for the reply, Mike. Apparently my title company failed to include these with our other documents at closing (I looked). I thought calling the HOA and asking them to run off a copy would be a simple matter, but they said this would cost $25. An exorbitant fee, I thought. They referred me back to the title company, which eventually made the copy and sent it to me.

Once I received the covenants, I found them to be rather monotonous reading, to say the least. :) Yes, they are in English, but not exactly plain. For example, the first sentence, which begins ''know all men'' has 242 words! Wow, that's a mouthful, and not exactly easy to decipher.

I was thinking of a sort of ''quick reference'' guide. Maybe someone who has served in the association for a long time and is familiar with commonly asked questions or problems could create a FAQ which addresses those issues. I guess I'm looking for something that reduces the legalese and puts the covenants in a more user-friendly format.
