Loose dogs

Posted in: Parkwood
Did anyone but us complain about stray dogs in the neighborhood? Animal control does not seem to do much about it. Is there any other way to get those dogs under control? My daughter is very much afraid of dogs and panicks when confronted by any stray dog. Those dogs are twice her size and were behaving in a semi agressive way towards my wife. Any input would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

what dog problem?

I have NEVER noticed a problem with loose animals in this neighborhood. I?’ve lived in the 7000 block of Autumn Park for 7 years I occasionally see dogs and cats that get out of their gates, and sometimes strays that have no apparent home. The only time I've had trouble with aggressive dogs, thier owners were walking them on a lease.

If a child is particularly sensitive to the normal, acceptable amount of animal traffic through a neighborhood, then I do not see that as a reason for Parkwood to get extra attention from the city's animal control department. I personally, think the city does an adequate job of keeping animals under control in Parkwood and do not care to see them increase their budget so that we can be guaranteed never to see a stray.

I would recommend that we all take a part in helping the community. Whenever someone sees a stray animal, it only takes an hour or two out of their lives to pick up that poor dog or cat and take it down to the human society. What?’s wrong with keeping a small amount of dog food on hand for the occasional neglected animal that just needs a little attention or leaving a crack in a garage door when it freezes because you know that there?’s a stray cat on the block? If there is a neighbor who?’s pet gets out often, then why not stop by and ask if there is anything you can do to help them keep their pets contained?

Most importantly, let?’s all remember to spay and neuter our pets!

Yes, We Have a Problem

We too have a serious problem with two particular loose dogs, a pit bull, and a German shepherd which habitually break into our neighbor's back yard, knock down the fence and get into our yard attacking our small dog. We have had to repair the fence on three occasions, we have called Animal Control repeatedly, and they have never responded. We are very angry that these dogs are running loose in the neighborhood and nothing can be done about it. If anyone can identify the dogs' owners, it would be a start, perhaps.

Thank you for airing this problem.

my solution

It is really very impossible to have stray dogs and cats taken care of, it is the city ordinace to keep your animals under control and many of my neighbors copletely disregard this. I keep a very nice yard, I park my vehicles off the street, and I do not make noise, and most of all I respect my neighbors, unfortunately I am not afforded the same respect. A couple of my neighbors seem to actually keep stray cats as a hobby, they tear up my garbage dig in my flower beds and spray all over creating a very unpleasnt odor, when the cat population starts to get out of hand,I set up my live animal trap (purchased at most feed stores). After catching them I put them in a bag and dump them about 5 miles from here, I would rather shoot them but unfortunately I cannot use a gun within city limits. after about 10 to 15 cats this usually takes care of the problem for about six months, then I start over. As for dogs I had a problem but after mumbling about killing dogs when my neighbor could hear me he started watching them, if he had not I would have set a pan of anti freeze under one of my bushes, this is a very effective method since dogs love the sweet taste of it. Please believe me when I say that I love animals, I have a few of my own but I do not let them run out in the streets, I just have no compassion for neighbors that do not respect there fellow man, If you believe I am a bad man so be it.
