February 7, 2002, Heninger Park Neighborhood Meeting Minutes:
1. Guest speakers from the preservation group, Broadway Bulldogs, presented a discussion about the proposed One Broadway Plaza project. A 37-story office complex proposed for development between Tenth, Washington, Broadway & Sycamore Streets. The project also includes a 7-story parking structure. The proposed site for the project is located on the historic Broadway Corridor. Several buildings listed on the City's historic register would need be lost to the wrecking ball to make way for the proposed project. Neighbors asked questions about the proposed project, the appropriateness of the proposed location, and the fate of the historic Broadway Corridor. We had the opportunity to sign a petition against the project's proposed location.
2. May 18, 2002, was agreed on for the Heninger Park Neighborhood Cleanup. Neighbors volunteered to man and monitor large trash dumpsters at the following locations:
506 S. Parton
808 S. Van Ness
211 S. Ross 530
S. Van Ness
901 S. Parton
3. After a lively discussion, it was agreed that Santa Ana Police Department and Empowerment Zone representatives would be invited to speak to the neighborhood at the April meeting.
