We are having a big problem with abandoned shopping carts on my street (900 Block of Ash)  There are times that I have seen as many as three - in the alley, on the sidewalk, or sometimes on the side of the street.  Most of them come from Kroger.  I have talked to the manager several times and he always tells me the same thing.  Kroker has an electronic system that is supposed to lock the wheels once the chopping cart is rolled beyond the boundaries of the parkin lot, but the system rarely woprks.  Kroger contracts with a local company to retrieve their  missing shopping carts and it may take a month, or longer for them to respond to a report.  In the meantime, the shopping cart drifts all over the neighborhood.  If I had a pick up truck I'd return them myself. It really makes the neighborhood look trashy and its a hassle to have move the things in order to park.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Councilman Jim King began an effort to have the carts picked up and then "sold back" to the establishment it came from.  This effort was started maybe 2 years ago.  I suggest you contact Jim King's office at 574-1110 or email his assistant, Rob Holtzman at rob.holtzmann@louisvilleky.gov and share your information with them.
