First I wanted to say hello and introduce my family. We are a military family stationed in Hawaii and will be moving to your area July 2008 time frame (Rental on Walnut Point Court).

My name is Heath and my wife's name is Susan. We have four beautiful children ages 7, 6, 4 and 3 years old.

As you can see we are not in your current location and have to make all informed decisions based on the internet and phone calls. With thats said I'd love some reassurance, feedback or anything in between about Emerald Mountain Christian School.

I welcome all feedback. We are 99.99% sure this will be what we do is send them to EMCS but like some additional information. As you can see by the age of my children we'll have a 2nd, 1st and Kindergarten aged children in there school.

We discusses and entertained sending them to one in Montgomery. But just have no earthly idea of what traffic is like or how long the commute would be to AUM area or Taylor Road/Vaughn for private schooling.

 

We really wanted to send them to Wetumpka Elementary but I was just not comfortable with them having to catch the school bus at 6:45 (school starts at 8am I'm told) and not dropped off until around 4pm (School gets out what at 3pm??).  If my kids were older that would be fine but I'm not so sure with the age of my children makes for a very long day :(

Warning... once you move to the south eastern U.S. you may never leave. Weather is too nice and the people are too friendly :) Though, I am sure we don't have a view of the sea like you do :(

I live in Emerald Mountain and commute to work everyday. In fact, I work for a private school in town. All private schools in Montgomery, with few exceptions I am sure, are good schools. I would steer clear of the public schools, but that's going just by what I hear (and read in the crime reports).

Commute is not bad. If you want to pay $1.50 to cross a toll bridge one way, you can be at AUM in about 15 minutes easily. To not take the toll bridge may make the trip 25 minutes.

Traffic from Wetumpka to Montgomery is bad from between 7am to 8am. I head to work at 6:30am and never worry about traffic unless there is a wreck.

Again, taking the toll bridge pretty much equals NO traffic, but I hate shelling out $3 a day so I skip the bridge.

Coming home, same with the toll bridge. Coming home the long way, you better leave work RIGHT at 5pm or sooner. 231 to wetumpka is badd during rush hour (but no where near as bad as the interstate from montgomery to PRattville is)

 Wetumpka elementary is a great school from what I am told, but honestly, it is further to drive to it from Emerald Mountain than going to Montgomery.

I have a very young son and would be interested in hearing about the EM Christian school.

I have already replied to a few of your other post, but had to respind to this one as well. As funny as this seems, the day I was talking with the Headmaster David Ames he had a phone call coming in and put me on hold. Well, instead of keeping me on hold he asked if it would be ok if he called me back. Of course I said yes. When he did we spoke for about 45 minutes about EMCS compared to others. He told me the phone call that came in was from a family who lived in Hawaii that was moving here and was interested in EMCS. I bet that was you who called, ha ha ha!! What a small world this is.

Just thought I'd mention that I did in fact contact a few of the families on that newsletter.  Gave me alot clarity to say the least. Of course I expected them to like the school. But what really sold me on there sincerity and proclamation that it was a a good school was the fact how long they've been sending there kids to the school.  Granted it was a small poll but I just can't see someone there precious children year after year if they didn't have trust in the school.

Wasn't what they said it was how they said it. One even went as far as to say based on the school alone they'd never move away from the area until there kids were graduated.

 

Anyhow thought i'd share. Now if I can just figure out a way to afford sending my 3 kids there :) Next year i'll have 4 :( Oh well if it's god will it will be.  I can always take out a loan or have bunch of yard/garage sales :)
