Settlers Crossing HOA

I took my kids to the playground a few weeks ago and I was amazed about the state of this socalled playground. Have we gone ghetto? Weeds and trash laying around, mulch needs to be replaced. The black matting under the mulch is sticking out everywhere and is torn up. It is an absolute eyesore. Now one of the slides is laying on the ground. No wonder, you rarely see any kids playing there. I am embarrassed everytime I drive by there. What about investing a few dollars on a bench or picnic table and for God's sake .....a trash can. We're so concerned about trash cans around here...put one up. That would also come in handy for all the nice people who let their dogs do business in the play area.

I am so with you.....I feel like we are living in the ghetto....it is ridiculous!!!!   Who the heck is in charge???  What do we have a HOA for???  Cause it isnt to help us maintain property values - or maybe they are too busy checking for trash cans in view....I am livid pissed about the state of this neighborhood....with the economy and the recent problems with our so called best schools in the district, I have no doubt our houses are worth less now than 10 years ago....hell, if I had know this was "the hood" I would have moved into Scissortail landing and paid $50,000 less for my house....the flower beds look crappy the greenbelts look crappy people arent taking care of their houses (especially the rentals) the playground is more than an eyesore the fences uuugghhh!!! and what is up with the 2 story house on the corner of lariat trail and settlers crossing blvd with the blue tarp that is covering their roof since May?????    I can assure you I wont continue to pay HOA dues to live in this neighborhood, I will get an attorney and hand him my money first!!!   Now that I have ranted on and on ....let me say to those that are thinking it...I am not just complaining...I am MORE than willing to do what it takes to clean this stink hole up...I have offered to take care of flower beds, to fix playground, to paint fences, trim trees...some one needs to step up

Yes I agree with both statements.  First thing that needs to be done is locate and identify board members.  Second, call a meeting to address these concerns.  The main problem, of course, is going to be money.  The play area is a big issue.  We got screwed when they put that cheap one up with the addition.  To replace our current monstrousity with one of the nicer-commercial play sets is going to cost $$BIG$$ money.  Whether or not the neighborhood would be willing or able to afford such a commitment is a big question mark, but one thing for sure is that if we don't get all these DEAD BEATS (that fail to pay there dues each year) CURRENT then we are all going be screwed.  Just annual lawn care maintenance is approximately 50-75k. 

I proposed last year, when we had a newsletter, to publish all the names of those that were delinquent.  Not only did I not hear anything regarding my suggestion, the newsletter is now defunct. 

One thing I have been noticing, primarily around my street, is the color that some people are staining their fences. OMG!!!  I usually mind my own business, but this effects my resale value of my home when others have very poor taste and no NOTHING about curb appearance for their homes.  Some of the stain colors these people are picking are horrible and don't match their houses or anyone elses for that matter.  One is a purplish color, one a barn reddish color.....hideous.  I realize this is my opinion and really don't like dictating to others, but sometimes it is necessary.  I think approved stain colors should be included in our by-laws.
