The last time this newsletter was published was January, so I'm labeling this a quarterly newsletter this time. Once again the hum of small gasoline powered engines are beginning to become commonplace. It's amazing what a sharpened blade can do for a lawn. In addition, I've heard a few circular saws chewing through wood, especially the treated kind used to make decks and the like. This is just a reminder that there are regulations in effect for decks and other structures, most of them requiring county approvals and inspections just like the house you live in, for everyone's protection. I heard the fines are stiff, but the rework is even worse if not built to code. I was told by the Berlin township building department that if the outdoor building (shed) is under 100 sq ft, no permit is required, but since things change with time it's always wise to consult with them directly before committing time and money on any project.
Along with the warmer weather come people, especially children, in the street (since we don't have sidewalks there isn't much choice where one can ride a bicycle), so please drive with care and caution. I personally find the posted 25MPH speed limit too high for a neighborhood of our size, especially with parked cars along the curb. You never know when someone small could pop out behind a parked vehicle. Put your loved one there and you get the picture, it's just not worth the seconds you save. On the other hand, it's not a great idea to let those youngest ones unattended near the street in the first place, but even they can get away from the yard quickly. A few homes have sold in the last few months, and appear to have appreciated well, which is good news for all.
Unless someone wants to take it upon themselves, I hear there will not be a Shadow Creek Community-wide Garage Sale this year, according to my sources. If you have contrary knowledge to this, please let the webmaster know so it can be published. Happy Spring!
