Shortly after 1:00 AM this morning a car, presumably speeding down Brower, lost control and ended up on its side on Egypt Rd after taking out the telephone pole on the corner of Egypt and Brower.  Numerous rescue vehicles and the life-flight helicopter responded to rescue the driver.  Wouldn't it be cheaper to address the root cause of traffic speed on Brower than pay the cost of responding to an accident at the same location every few months?

Living on Brower, I make that turn frequently.  I'm glad I wasn't turning that corner this morning or I may not be here to speak about it.  What more has to happen before the Township takes our concerns seriously and makes some much needed changes to slow down traffic on Brower Avenue?

I urge my neighbors to support the Brower Ave traffic calming application I am circulating for signatures and submitting to the Township.

Credit the emergency personnel and Peco for their late night response and leaving the scene perfectly repaired this morning.

This is "Brower's curve."  It is a natural speed bump for those going too fast or driving too drunk on Egypt Rd.

The single male driver hit the pole going so fast that he split it in half.  He appeared to be ok, but was airlifted to the hospital after being extracted.

This morning, the Verizon and Peco crew was joking that this is the 3rd time they've replaced this pole in recent years.

What is important to note, is that this curve places pedestrians and cars waiting for the light to change on Brower right in the path of oncoming traffic.  Luckily, these accidents always seem to happen late at night when no one is waiting on the corner.

This is a unique opportunity for Penn Dot to fix this road as the Egypt Rd widening project is set to start soon.  It is important for residents to voice their concerns so that this intersection can be improved.  Personally, I'd like to see the sidewalk set back from the roadway with some natural barriers to protect pedestrians.  Even straightening the road slightly will help.  And even having cars on Brower wait several feet back.

Of course, Brower Ave traffic calming is a must as this is a hot spot for traffic accidents.
