By now you are probably aware that the Douglas Elementary school building is for sale. I contacted someone at the school board office to see when the sale would take place, who could buy and if there would be a restriction on the type of business that could go in there. I was given some info and told that the building is being sold because it isn't a good use of operation money and that the city will have the final say on what type of facility can go in there. If we don't want to end up with more drug rehab houses or low-income housing, we need to let our city council members know how we feel about the sale. That way they can put a little thought into what goes there and how they zone the area. Our city councilman for the ward is Robert Mahaffey. You can get his contact info by checking the City of Des Moines website. Another council member to contact would be Skip Moore. Continue to check this site for updates.
