I did. And I said that because they are too far apart and not enough of them compared to the effectiveness of ones in Hurstbourne. In fact, if you go back to some of my posts, you can find where and when I said there were not enough and be sure to put in enough if they are put on Bellemeade Road.
But, Larry, you almost sounded like a career politician in your response. You did a great job of circumventing the real issue and not speaking to the essential question .
To refocus;
What will the taxpayers in the City of Bellemeade get for our money?
Money used to build the sidewalks, and
even more money to be spent to maintain them.

Thanks John I just could not resist raising that issue.
I posted this item to raise these issue for comment from citizens. The commission is studying the proposal made by Metro Councilman Jon Ackerson. WE have not reached a decision. IT is a lot of money. Sidewalk construction and repair are eligible for road fund dollars that we receive from the Commonwealth.
Thank you for your comments |

Rely on funds from the Commonwealth? Certainly you can not be serious! The General Assembly can not even agree on a budget; appropriations are being cut even from education and the road fund; the Commonwealth tax base is rapidly dwindling; unemplyment is above 10%; the "Commonwealth" is borrowing from pension funds to pay for health care; and we are gonna rely on the Commonwealth? Come on now; we certainly are smarter than that.
And an issue I can't help but raise to you is who fixed the culvert and street at the juncture of Shelbyville Road and Bellemeade Road - Bellemeade or the Commonwealth? If I'm not mistaken, the "Commonwealth" said something to the effect, "you put it in; you fix it." even though it was within the "Commonwealth's" right of way.
So, I can hear them (the fabled "Commonwealth" that is) now, "you put the sidewalks in, so you take care of them." |
