Home Depot is requesting a change to the East Pasadena Specific Plan.

They would like to build a new store on Foothill just west of Rosemead (South Side) and have already signed a lease contingent upon project approval.

What they are not telling us is about another store that is under consideration at the North West End of the city. How do these two projects relate together? Can the area support two new stores?

We should request that they disclose information about other stores they are considering in the area before considering any Specific Plan changes.

I recently found out that the other location is on Woodbury across from Jackson Elementry School on School District property that that district presently uses for a maintenance yard. The District has not made up their mind about the property lease, and so the project is on hold. But Home Depot believes the city can support two stores and would like to proceede with the one on the School District property as well.

But the School District is short of property of Schools and cannot meet the student classroom needs as it is.

What is the best use of this property? Where is the best location(s) for a Home Depot (Or other ''Big Box Store)?

Do you have concerns about fire hazards, esthetics, traffic or other safety issues?

Would it be more convienient for you to have a general home improvements store nearer your home? Do you think that it will provide some needed entry level jobs in our area?

I realize that neither of these stores are directly in our neighborhood, but they still affect us.

What is your opinion? Do we need them? Do we want them? How can we address all the concerns?
