Hi, I couldn't believe I have not heard more about solar screens before here in Tampa.  As hot as the sun is and as much as our air conditioners work in the summer, we need them.  These screens take the place of regular insect screens and they block 70-80% of the sun's rays that cause heat.  Then much of the leftover heat is blocked by the window itself, leaving your house much cooler.   You can still see fine out of the window.

You can learn more at this site about solar screens in Tampa and see the results of some of the customers they have had, a large savings in energy costs.

I've never heard of 'em either until now. I was tired of heat coming in my back and side bedroom windows so I went to my nearby Home Depot and bought some reflective window tint. It was easy to install. The sun's heat rays are now reflected away from the windows and now keeps the room much cooler in the summer. I am now working on installng reflective foil in my attic.
