Speed Bumps

How many people do you know had actually voted to have speed bumps installed in our community? I know of only one. All the rest hate them.

I STRONGLY opposed the speed bumps at the meeting many years ago. The board wanted them and easily voted them in. The intent was to curb the cut thru traffic from Monument and West Ox.

The funny part is that the first location they popped up was directly in front of the HOA Treasurer's house at 12439 CEDAR LAKES DR. Kinda funny that it is alleged that she also wanted parking passes implemented this year too. Self serving interests I suspect.

I could deal with the three speed bumps in front of her house since I could take the back way and not run over them. But this only opened the door to add more.

The board added more near the playground near Sutler Hill, the pool house on Erica Hill and on the curve on Thomas Brigade that happens to be behind the Treasurer's house. No cut thru traffic at these locations and almost no foot traffic. So why exactly was it done?

And then speed bumps appeared at the stop signs at each exit for the community before you hit the state roadway.

That makes eight speed bumps we paid for!

So it is good to live on the boundaries of the community where you get to avoid them. Everyone in the middle gets to suffer the jolts as we enter and leave the community daily.

I would hate to see what would happen if we didn't have them. People would be cutting through at 90 miles an hour, running over pedestrians, etc.

I was trying to cross the street one time and this girl was flooring it (I swear trying to hit me) and I don't think she saw the speed bump. She had to lock the brakes up and still hit the speed bump. I hope she needed front-end alignment after that. I'm glad they have them because people are too aggressive and reckless - it's the only way to slow them down.

I doubt anyone is going to travel 90 MPH if there were no speed bumps. At best.. they go 35 in the straight-away towards West Ox.

Speed bumps do nothing but punish the people that live in the community and bring town property values. It gives the impression traffic is problematic and makes it look some some trashy apartment complex. I walked along Cedar Lakes before they were installed and I did not see cars speeding in the neighborhood so often we needed speed bumps..

I have NEVER "almost" been ran over either. Fact-of-the-matter is...  people need to look both ways before crossing they the street. If you see a car traveling fast in your direction... do not step out in front of it.

Does VDOT install speed bumps on state roads prior to crosswalks? Nope!!

Speed bumps are a feel good prop that do nothing but cause people to rev their engines in between speed bumps to make up for lost time.

Can anyone tell me how many people or cars have been struck in our community to justify the need?
