I disagree that the speed humps on North Chadwick work well or have solved the problem. Yes, they do slow down some drivers, and it is better than it was. But Papa Johns delivery cars, one particular big dark Mercedes, 3 BMWs, a big yellow Hummer with a Subway sign on it, a champaign Jaguar, a beat up old dark red Nissan, another junky white coupe, and a large number of other drivers with cell phones stuck in their ears make mockery of the humps. SUV drivers use them to a thrill.
I tried them one time in my F150 4x4 off road version at 30 and it was like running over a hot dog. If you want to see a speed deterent, go across Lyndon Lane in Hurstbourne. Parking my black Mustang with its blacked out windows backed into my driveway just off the street slows down more drivers than the speed humps.
If you put them on Bellemeade Road, make sure you put in taller ones and put in enough to get the attention of drivers. The speed humps on North Chadwick are too far apart and 2 short of what was needed.
Mr.Mayor, I would gladly serve as the head of a committe to solve the problem. BTW, I see drivers go through the stop sign at Bellemeade Road and Charring Cross regularly.
I recently went through one of our other smaller cities and was amazed that drivers were driving close to the speed limit. Someone had erected a red diamond shaped sign with the words, "Targeted Enforcement Area," on it at both ends of the through street directly below the 25 MPH speed limit sign on the same post.
There is no speed limit sign on North Chadwick as you come off of Whipps Mill Road and the one coming in from Shelbyville Road is too tall. Correcting those two problems might help. Is there an official speed limit sign posted on Bellemeade Road anywhere?
