Ready for Cat 3 Hurricane?

Alert crawlers available in days

Ken Smith of Channel 7 WKFK in Pascagoula has placed a link to our webpage on WKFK.COM and in a few days I think he will arrange for a crawler on cable television with something to the effect, ''Link to St Andrews Neighborhood Webpage at http://WKFK.COM to share information and fire department alerts about neighborhood flood waters, road obstructions, and help.''

Ready For Cat 3 Hurricane

I agree with everything you said and as the Public Information Officer for the Gulfpark Estates Volunteer Fire Department, I would like to be involved in any meetings that are set-up or plans that are established.
Even tho we are responsibility for Gulfpark Estates, Pinehurst and parts of Ocean Beach, as well as St. Andrews, the Fire Department should play a major role during any emergency situation.
Cat 3 Hurricane

In 1998 Hurricane Georges was a direct hit to Fountainebleau beach. Most residents had evacuated St Andrews due to the rising water conditions. Jackson Co. did a great job of clearing roads and securing our homes; and power was restored within 2 days. The one thing that was missing was a communication link in our local area. Neighbors depended on each other to convey news, because we were unsure when we could return to St. Andrews. I use a WLOX personal weather link for my local forecasts and weather warnings. I always take the laptop computer when I travel so I can keep up-to-date with local happenings. It would be good if we could get a link with the Jax Co. Emergency Management Team and have local storm information on a regular basis.

Storm information

I think you have an excellent idea, and I am amazed that the county hasn't done this already. In the local area, the fire department is considering posting local storm alerts and other useful information on this web site. Also, residents are invited to post their observations in this discussion forum.

Now, how do we get the ball rolling? I nominate p. courtney to take point on this excellent idea.
