Oppose new 3-way stop

Re: New 3-way stop north of the new causeway bridge on Fountainebleau Rd.

Al,

I would like to have some support in stopping the proposed 3 way stop that is to be added on the north end of the new bridge and Mary Mahoney. This stop is to slow the traffic going across the bridge. I believe the only people that it will effectively slow down are the drivers that are following the speed limit in the first place. The speeder will certianly speed up again once the slow down for the 3way stop. I say slow down because even now many only slow down for the 4way stop at the old bypass road. Why punish everyone when enforcement of the existing speed limits is the answer. There is less chance of an accident on the bridge than anywhere on the road to Hwy 57 because there are no cars coming in from side road entrances or residences.

I believe there are better ways to spend the thousands of dollars that it will take to install the stop when the real answer is enforcement of the law in the first place. This proposed stop is like making the drawbridge stop light (between Ocean Spring and Biloxi, Hyw 90) a permanent blinking red to try to slow the traffic, or perhaps they should add stop lights to Hwy 10 to get the traffic to slow to the speed limit. If the cars speed down your street like they do mine then you know it is a problem of enforcement, not putting in more stop signs. If you drive in St Andrews at the posted speed of 25 you will have traffic stacked up behind you. Without enforcement, people will speed with a stop or not.

Thanks for the opportunity to listen to my opinion.

Increase the speed limits

Looking at the problem in another way, maybe Fountainbleau Rd. should be rated for higher speeds in view of the causeway improvement. Otherwise, maybe Fountainbleau Rd. is outdated for the driving needs of our community. If it is, why shouldn't the road be improved to rate higher speed limits? We have an opportunity to do that in the next two or three years via the planned extension of Fountainbleau. It can be done sooner if some federal funds are diverted from current projects (See Hamil Farm Rd discussion thread). Personally, I would like to also see a bike lane added to the length of the road.

3-Way Stop

I agree with you. This is the first I have heard of this but, like you, I don't feel the need for one at the location. It would certainly slow traffic across the bridge and cause un-necessary congestion.
Proposed Three-way Stop??

I am in the ''dark'' here. I have read the comments concerning a proposed three-way stop over the North side of the new bridge.

While having worked for the Government for over 30 years, I have a distinct bad flavor in my mouth of politics, be they Republican or Democrat. But....politics makes this world go round.

Having lived here in OBE for over ten years, I have seen a lot of crazy things go on during storms and what not. Some of them have made me ponder joining the Jackson County Aux. Sheriff's Dept.

I drive that new bridge about as much as anyone and I haven't seen anything as yet to make me think that we need or deserve a three-way stop at that location. That would be just another ''Drag'' on my day.

Such a beautiful bridge....straight and narrow....kids, drunks and madmen speed.
We don't need a three-way stop at Belle Fontaine and the lake road intersection.

Don't you get tired of others making decisions and laws FOR YOU in your public interest? Some are necessary....this one isn't.
