Nope Anita, not everyone is a committed volunteer. Of the aproximately 2000 homeowners in North Shore, only 500 are even memebers, and of that, perhaps 20-30 are truly active volunteers, with measurable deliverables.

Under the leadership, participation and direction of the NSNA board, I do what I can, when I can, on my terms. And I do it very well thank you!

The result is a timely, informative, attactive, and award-winning publication
......by the new-style "volunteer" of the millenium!

Thanks, Paul. Here are some issues for you to consider. The blocks of the North Shore Neighborhood between 3rd and 4th Street are zoned Residential, and the people who live there have as much of a right to NSNA representation and to try to preserve the residential zoning of their blocks as anyone to the East. Many North Shore residents support improved commercial development and beautifuication of the 4th Street commercial corridor. One primary objection to the CVS project is the request for rezoning from residential to commercial that will allow that business to encroach 250 feet into a residential neighborhood when our Neighborhood Plan recommends 150 feet in order to preserve the residential nature of our neighborhood. If the CVS project is approved, look for increased commercial encroachment all along our 4th Street boundary. Will we eventually lose an entire block into our neighborhood? Perhaps two blocks? Many of us would love to see Watson's replaced, but not at any cost. CVS will not solve the social and law enforcement problems on that section of 4th Street. Prostitution, drunken transients, etc. are not going to disappear due to a new drugstore. Think about how you'd like to see 4th Street as it approaches downtown developed--many of us are supporting enhancements and developments that would create an urban-village, pedestrian-friendly, let's get out and walk and shop/dine district. There's a project in the works with the City, DOT, input from our neighborhood to beautify the 4th Street commercial district with gorgeous landscaping, improvements for pedestrians. The CVS project as proposed does not fit this vision--it would be better suited to a large, suburban lot in an area catering to vehicular traffic. Finally, many historic neighborhoods in this country have been spoiled, have lost property value, have increased crime, or have been lost due to poor rezoning choices, commercial encroachment, and lack of committment to historic preservation and Neighborhood committment! Just my thoughts--attend the meeting tonight, hear CVS's proposal and hear others' thoughts.
