At the appropriate time, if you would like to write to me here on this web site and ask, I will be glad to inform you on the numerous little projects that I was working on under the banner of the landscaping committee. There are several of them and I would like to see them dealt with. Also there are several trees that I was working on, etc. etc.
Additionally, if you plant any plants we have been operating on a low maintenance, xero-scape, Florida indigenous type of planting scheme ever since we took over the landscaping responsibility from the city several years ago. Plants that take a minimum of care and watering and keep their shape to reduce or eliminate pruning. But, even these kinds of plants can be distressed in isolated traffic islands surrounded by 150 degree asphalt and concrete curb surrounds. Often they need to be hand watered during tough times to get them through. In the past I have asked and been given the permission of the adjacent property owners. Or I carry, during the summer months, about fifteen gallon jugs of water to water certain plants that look like they need it. Mostly what I have been doing is in-filling where plants have died, people have pulled them out or people have walked on them when creating a pathway. Like what has happened at 4th street and 5th avenue.
The concept I have employed is that most of the plants we have used are self propagating. We simply cut a plant up or into sections, like the giant liriope and coonties, and plant them where needed. This then eliminates constantly having to buy replacement plants. We sort of have our own nursery out there.
