1st the Lamp Post comes down to be replaced by a New 130 room Hampton Inn. Now the 8 Inn will be coming down for an 80 room Holiday Inn Express...Albertson's wants to tear down the American Owned and Broadway Motels and the former Morrison's and build a new ALBERTSONS at 5th Ave & 34th Street! Several other smaller properties are under contract. Median Landscaping should begin after the Final Four in March and
DOT improvements begin in 2000 including signage, signals and lighting.. Much of this has come about because of the efforts of the 34th Street Business Association and City Team with the support of adjacent neighborhoods of United Central, Historic & North Kenwood, Disston Heights. Great teamwork from all!!!

All of what you say is true. The transformation has begun and is exciting to watch. Now how do we address the problem of the prostitutes waltzing up and down 34th Street? Or will the elimination of the sleazy motels take care of that?

Yes eliminatinig sleazy hotels will help but, we also need to make our police administration and city leaders understand that this is a serious problem that needs more attention more police more under cover drug and prostitution stings.

If you really want it gone......

No one wants to hear it, but the way to get it off the streets is to (TAKE A DEEP BREATH) legalize it. All of it will then go inside, like the expensive escorts and call girls nobody worries about. Besides, its consentual activity between two adults. It should be nobodys business anyway!
