Barking Dog

Posted in: Lake Euclid
For about the past 6 months, I have been enduing my next door neighbor's barking dog. It is now 12:28 a.m., and I am up for the night. Somtimes I don't even get get to sleep at all. For about 3 months I have even gone as far as to slept on my living room floor, with every interior door in the house closed, to block off the noise. However I started having back problems from it getting up and down from the floor, and had to move back into my bedroom. The neighbors keep this dog locked up in a pen in their yard 24 hrs. a day.

I have to get up at 3:00 a.m. every morning, therfore I have to go to bed a 7:00 p.m. The dog is barking sometime when I get home at 3:30 p.m. and continues to bark for hours. My nerves are totally shot. I have had to miss work from exhaustion, I am on medication for depression. I find it very degrading, that I am 52 yrs. old, own a 3 bedroom house, and am unable to sleep in any of the bedrooms. It makes no difference which room I sleep in, all three bedrooms are exposed to the barking.

In December, I wrote my neighbors a letter, asking them to please do something and received no response. In the past 3 months, I have had the police out here about 6 times, however the say they can do nothing, becuse the people are not home, or even when they are home, the do not answer the door. The last officier that was here on, Thursday 05/03, even suggested that my best option was to sell my house and move, as the neighbors obviously do not care. Another problem is that when the police get here, the dog stops barking.

Officier Roberts is very aware of this problem, but has been able to do nothing. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. At this point, I will do just about anything. I fear my next and last option will be to sell and move.

Barking update - 08/25/2001

As of about a month ago, resigned myself that I was getting nowhere, so I just gave up. It seems as though the last time I called the police, around 06/15, my neighbor admitted that he was going to do nothing.

I have moved my entire bed into my living room and have been sleeping there on a nightly basis since the 06/15 incident. These kids need to learn to take some responsibility.

It has gotten even worse. There are about 6 to 8 dogs, within the corner of 20th. St. and 27th. Ave. N., who are also kept chained up in the yard. A boxer, on the corner is chained to a tree and starts around 10 pm and can continue barking as late as 1 am. This gets them all started, within a 3 block area.

I have made the decision to sell, as I cannot live as a captive in my own home. Please understand, this is a good neighborhood, but need a lot of cleaning up north of 26th. Ave. N.
