I would like to remain anonymous for my
own personal and professional reasons, but I would really like some feedback or opinions on how you think our community police officer and our codes investigator is doing in our neighborhood. Have you seen any signs of improvement in either catogory, have things remained the same, or have they become worse in those two specific catagories in the last two years. Please post so we have something in writing that can be presented to the powers that be. I am not looking for negative comments only, please post positive remarks also.

codes/community police

Hi-
I see the codes officer around all the time. She seems to be doing a good job as far as I'm concerned. I had a situation that I alerted her to the other day and it was taken care of immediately. It had to do with a stop sign and I'm sure it was completely out of her job responsibility but she took care of it anyway.

Our community police officer, well now, that's another story. Just to give you an example....I had a friend alert me two days ago about a theft in the neighborhood which he heard over his scanner. He told me it was on Dartmouth and 26th street. Two men broke into a home with a gun and stole a womans' safe. The woman was home at the time. Apparently, the road was roped off while it was investigated by the police. I immediately called Officer Kocak and left a message for him to call me back. I wanted some basic info like...were the men caught? Since I live very close to where this happened, whether or not these men were caught was of importance to me seeing how burglers tend to stick to a particular demographic area until they are caught. Well, it's been 2 days and haven't heard a peep from Kocak. Guess the things that are of importance to the residents here in Kenwood get put on the back burner. I haven't called him often, but whenever I do it seems like it takes days to hear back from him. It sure makes me think that Kenwood is not a top priority. Can we request a new community officer? Is this something that citizens have the right to do? Honestly, I feel that the guy has a bad attitude about Kenwood. I always get the feeling that he thinks nothing in this area will ever change and concerned citizens that call are always over-reacting. Am I alone in my feelings or do others get this impression too?

It does seem that the problems we have get ''played down'' when I have talked to our community policing officer as if to say ''we don't have it bad'' so what are we complaining about. In other words there appears to be a lack of concern for our problems. I don't know what can be done but if more people are getting that impression then maybe we should alert the powers that be on how we feel.

As far as codes go it seems to me that it is a hit or miss situation. Some people are being hounded about violations and right next door nothing is done. don't know solution to this either but I do know it could probably be done more efficiently.

Although in defence of both the codes inspectors and the community police program there are only so many hours in a day and a lot of territory to cover.
One solution that comes to mind is higher taxes to pay for more police and codes inspectors. Are we willing to do that??? Are they being utilized as efficiently as possible now??? Are we getting what we pay for and if so are we willing to pay more to get more???
