Does anyone besides me notice that stop signs are being disregarded by many folks traveling through the neighborhood? I live at a stop sign intersection and can't begin to tell you how many times I witness people flying through without the least attempt of stopping. This happened a couple of times today already (11am)! One of the cars that failed to stop hit my car, my neighbors car and another further down the road. The woman was arrested for careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident but imagine if she had hit a child instead of a car???? I can replace my car but I can't replace my kids!! Is there anything we can do to make people slow down in here? Speed bumps? 4-way stops?? I watch the same cars going through the stop signs every day! Some people are using the north/south streets as a short cut from Central to 5th Ave and I wonder if speed bumps might decrease the problem. If anyone has any good ideas please let me know. If anyone knows what I could possibly do about this personally, (someone to contact at a city level)please let me know! Thanks!!!

Please Don't Punish all

I know you are concerned about safety. There are other ways to help control traffic without using speed bumps. We already regrided the streets so you go no more than 2 blocks without hitting a sign. We can try neckouts(where the street narrows at the intersection). We could ask for ''Stop Ahead'' signs. Tree conopies can close the perspective which slows cars. Allowing cars to park on both sides of your street will slow traffic by making it a narrower space to drive in. Even striping on the streets will help. Greater enforcement is always an option. Please don't call for speed bumps. They punish everyone, whether you go slow or fast.

Speed bumps

Thanks for the response. I am not necessarily thinking that speed bumps are the ultimate answer but I do know that something is needed! If someone is killed as a result of not obeying the traffic signs, then it will be too late. My car was hit last week as a result of this and it could have very easily have been a child. This block has lots of young children playing outside all the time. Thanks for all your ideas Bill, I'm going to call the city and see what steps need to be taken to at least consider one of the options you mentioned.
