O.K. you people, and you know who you are. I'm challenging you to join in? I know there are a lot of you who read this site from time to time(maybe even everyday), but never post anymore, if you ever did. I have heard many reasons, from ''It's all negative'' to ''I don't want to get attacked'' and others. Yes, there is merit to all these, but I say only to a point. If all the positive people stop posting, then all we have is negative, right? . We need to also talk about the many good things we enjoy about kenwood. Maybe we could use this to bring attention to all the good things our fellow neighbors do. We could congratulate new plantings or a special new paint job. We could also thank a neighbor who did a good deed. As for the attacks, how bad can you be attacked if your praising others? I just think we could do more with this site.
In that vain I have two things to talk about.
1. How many of you have seen the new lights in the park? They are wonderful. They make it much brighter at night and are also decorative. Many thanks to the President and the city and all others, past and present, who helped bring this about.
2. While out walking the dog, we came accross the newly renevated house of Diane and Grady on the 2300 block of Dartmouth. What a great transformation. The porch was opened up and a beautiful railing put in that Grady built himself. The back yard is also fabulous(They graciously gave a tour). Congratulations and thank you for another fine addition to the neighborhood.

Speaking of opening up porches..

....there is a house in the 29th Street N block of 6th Avenue N, on the north side, about mid-block, that looked so sad and neglected for years. You could not tell the original character of the house at all, as the porch was sealed up and it just literally looked unhappy. Well, now some wonderful person(s) who seems to appreciate the true soul of the house has come onto the scene, opened up the front porch, put on a new roof, put on some kind of cool little roofy-type things above the porch which I'm sure have another name besides ''roofy-type things'' that I don't know about, painted, hung a wonderful true-to-period door, and you would not believe the transformation!!! You walk by and it is like: MY GAWD! THIS IS A BUNGALOW! AND A VERY CLASSIC SPECIMEN AT THAT! It is so very heartening to see a house restored to it's quiet, humble grandeur, ya know? Kudos to whomever that is, and whoever does our ''home and garden award'', if you will take a little walk or vehicular cruise over to the 2900 block of sixth, and look for the bungalow on the north side, mid-block, sort of light brown with white trim and cool roof trim over the front porch, they need the home and garden award--they've saved another Kenwood Jewel that had been obscured and all but lost, and they've romanced the stone in such a thoughtful, careful, meticulous way, that now it shines as brightly as any gem in the bunch. Kudos, whoever you are!

Bill, I agree w/the sentiment in your post. My ''Helloooooo'' post further down the board was basically making the same point. This is a great communication venue/tool/resource/magical mystery tour for our 'hood and it is under-utilized, big time. Yes, I agree that it is sad that the net tends to breed attacks and sort of bring out the worst in folks sometimes--I've certainly been at the receiving end of that since I've gone into orbit in cyberspace. I could tell you stories that would curl your hair, actually, about ''Edna's Wild Adventures in Cyberspace''. Truly, the truth is stranger than fiction. But ANYWAY, be that as it may be and IS, it doesn't negate the wonders of this medium. I mean, what IF, we all sort of consciously agreed to one basic ground rule, which is: Be respectful, and treat others as you would want them to treat you. Sort of a golden rule type thaaaang. That way, even if we get into passionate SUBSTANTIVE arguments, they will be just that--on point and substantive, and personal attacks need not enter the mix. True, that is idealistic and not everyone will agree to that, fer shuur. Sometimes ya do get personally attacked. What I've learned during Edna's Excellent Adventures is this about the net: When attacked, you can either respond substantively, or you can choose silence. Sometimes if someone has been particularly nasty to you, it is best not to respond--just stay silence, and the silence speaks for itself.

We cannot control others in this world, but that shouldn't keep us from participating in an interesting forum/venue/schtick/wild and wacky cyberworld, should it? Answer key: Heck no! So, I second Bill's motion: Jump on in--the water's nice!

Roofy-type things? I just had to go see what you were talking about. The house is as you say, WONDERFUL. It really does look good. The shingles you were talking about are called ''fish Scales''.
I'm sure you can tell why. I bet the blue house to the west would look just as nice if it were also opened up. One by one, it's great to see the transformation.
