It has come to my attention that some folks who read this link feel its a bad idea to have the Media involved when we have the Block Party/crime watch thing on April 6th. What do you want us to do to please you?Kenwood has a problem and its Crime and Drugs Most neighbors will not get involved cause they are afraid while others will. Do you want us to let it blow over and maybe it will just go away? I have lived in this neighborhood since 1983 and I have watched drugs for over 10 yrs from my front window It never just went away but got worst. I'm tired of picking up their trash that ends up on the street and in my yard. I'm tired of seeing plastic baggies all over the place. I'm tired of being scared. I want to live and feel safe here. So to those who don't like what we are trying to do and you only want to put on blinders and hide behind your door in fear Go for it!If the Crime Pirates of Historic Kenwood can help bring change that might make you feel safer that is a good thing. To let you know what has be started! The city will be installing more lights in ALL the ALLEYS! We have also asked to have the city look into cleaning up all the trash in the alleys. The next step will be codes to help clean up the neighborhood all the while they are also assisting the police in keeping the streets safe and free of crime. I'm telling you how.

You say you have watched drugs for 10 years from your window? When did you change your belief and get off the porch to help ''rid'' the neighborhood of these drugs?

I am also concerned, that you, as our new crime watch coordinator have expressed you continual disbelief in the drug march process. I have heard from more than 1 neighbor that you openly said ''Drug Marches don't work''. I realize your tune has to be modified according to your new position, but pushing us to believe this is a silver bullet is wrong.

You are not the only one who has been in this neighborhood for an extended period of time. And we have all seen changes. To imply that things are stagnant is not to do justice to those who have worked so hard to better this place.

Drugs are not our most prevelant problem. We continue to suffer from homeless issues, prostitution, traffic problems and other pressing items. (didn't we just lose part of our neighborhood to the school board)? We can't focus all of our energy in one place. We must remember there are other neighbors here, and the volunteers, quite frankly, don't come from the 3rd Ave corridor.

I think some may have mistaken pushing for leadership. Am I missing something? Shouldn't a crime watch coordinator coordinate, try to build enthusiasm and pursuade others to see the importance of a cause? Isn't that what leadership is all about?

Two of the ''other'' problems at the top of your list, homelessness and prostitution can in many cases, be directly correlated to drugs.

I live on Dartmouth, two Avenues north of 3rd Ave. My son can't walk to his friend's home on 4th Avenue because of the people 3rd Avenue attracts.

I may not live on the 3rd Avenue corridor but I certainly feel the heat from it!

ps. Honestly, who cares WHEN someone decided to get off their porch and take a stand. The point is that they did it!
