Some people , no names mentioned, need to get a life. I see that a few of our neighbors have been burning up the streets and code enforcements phone line. If that is all you have to do , you need to get a life. I was operating a saw in my backyard the other day and codes came up and told me the extension-cord could not be ran accross the yard. They said someone had called them. We only need to call codes on the real problems : like houses falling in bad repaor, bushes and trees , unsightly overgrown yards. not stupid things. GET A LIFE PEOPLE!!!! You know who I mean!!

I totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Codes enforcement is a useful tool and I'm glad it exists, but I've always been very troubled by those who seem to delight in calling codes on their neighbors for whatever reason strikes their fancy. If I were going to call codes about a neighbor, I could never, EVER take it lightly. I think it is a VERY serious thing to do. If there is a problem house, that is one thing. But the folks who proudly announce that they call codes all the time, yada yada yada, or post about how a house (and they give the address!) has paint colors that they don't like and what can we do about it, I mean...it sounds like they want a response saying ''Let's organize a posse and go down there and paint it off white!'' I agree with ce, GET A LIFE, PEOPLE!

But it is even more serious than that. Like I said, I'm not saying codes should not be used as the tool it is, but the emphasize on it and the attitude about it is what concerns me. I think it takes away from the welcoming, friendly image of Kenwood that I would like to project. I mean, recently someone posted that thing about a certain house with ugly colors, and someone else posted something to the effect of ''We're gonna get you if your fence isn't set back far enough!'' I mean, what is this? It is embarrassing and shameful. There are ways to say things without taking a belligerant attitude and/or a gleeful attitude about calling codes on people. As I said in the beginning, I think calling codes on a neighbor is a serious thing that shouldn't be a source of joy, glee or prancing around doing the ''I'm a Yuppie and if you aren't, I'm gonna call codes on you-BRAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA'' dance. Sheesh. Embarrassing.

Don't get me wrong, I call Sanitation all the time about people dumping in the alley. The city numbers are there to help us and work in partnership with us--use them! Codes is one of those numbers, but let's show some respect for our neighbors, even the ones who, granted, may not deserve it if they just blatently don't keep up their houses, by:

1. Taking it seriously if you call codes. It isn't something to dance in the streets over.
2. Don't do it if you could maybe help the person out. Is the person physically challenged and maybe needs HELP mowing their lawn? Offer to mow it instead of calling codes? Is it an old person or a poor person or someone with some kind of physical prob who can't paint their house? Offer to help them paint or to donate paint! Is it just that you don't LIKE their paint? In that case, really, as ce said, please get a life. Is it that you don't LIKE their choice of fencing material? Once again, hit that life mall and shop 'til ya drop!
