has anyone installed central AC without replacing all K and t wiring?

which ins. companies insure houses with k and t wiring?

has anyone been satisfied with electrician that switched out knob and tube wiring. Is there a standard price formula, such as x per outlet? what was approx. cost? was it destructive of plaster walls and ceilings?

New wiring for a/c

We have knob & tube but had to run all new wiring for the central a/c we put in and for the kitchen appliances. Rest of house still knob & tube. Since cannot put commercial names on this site if you post your email address we could send you info on a insurance company that will insure knob & tube. It is major insurance company.

Holes in plaster a bad by-product of
rewiring but can be patched. We do not have namde of elecrician who is
decent with his charges. The rewiring is very expensive and most electrcins seem too busy right now with all the remodeling in the neighborhod.

I fully understand your concerns. I am in the process of restoring a home in the neighborhood that was full of knob and tube wiring. My A/C contractor wouldn't touch it with knob and tube and since I just recently purchased the home my insurance company gave me 45 days to completely rewire the house. I couldn't find anyone locally that would take on a new policy for a home with know and tube. I (and several other people in the neighborhood) have used Annie's Electric to do our conversions. Their pricing is based on a per/outlet basis and I found the quality of work to be exceptional and the pricing to be extremely competitive. The are also very good at keeping and damage to existing plaster to a minimum. It can be somewhat of a large investment, but if you ever plan to resell your home it is almost a necessity. Good luck
