What do we have in common?

Posted in: Historic Old Northeast
The CVS issue has me increasingly wondering , what do we have in common? My concerns living on 13th Ave NE are not the same as friends on 9th Ave NE, or friends in the area near Watson's. My hunch is that those who live in Granada Terrace have totaly different concerns for the nieghborhood. Etc.

On the CVS issue, I am personally somewhat torn. I can see both sides of the issue. But my friends and neighbors who are most likely to be directly impacted by the proposed development are strongly opposed. Since it will be in their back yards, I feel compelled to defer to their feelings. I know how I would feel about someone from North of 22nd Ave telling me how to rezone 13th!

No matter how the CVS issue turns out, I do think that it is time that we started concentrating on what we all share in this neighborhood. I hope we are more than just a capricious boundary on a map! I am curious what others think are the ties that bind us together.

Right on !

You have said it very well I think.

In such a diverse neighborhood, we should all try to work together and to
support the concensus of feeling of those whose live closest to the point of issue (as with CVS).

By listening to and supporting our neighbors, we build bonds, we allow diversity, and we show our humanity.

Ther sin't an easy answer to your question of what binds us together because we are so diverse. So it has to be respect and decent human instinct. Empathy. The ability to put ourselves in the shoes of the other neighbor and see things from his/her perspective. Empathy, compromise and just plain humanity.

not much apparently

by reading all the posting here about the drugstore and all the resignations and the angry posting by the newsletter editor, it sure seems that there isn't much hope here of compromise and little sign of ties that bind; more like fences that seperate

you make a good point, though that if we are at all resaonable we should defer to the people most affected
if they make reasonable points

Should be the Association, but it has only divided lately
