LANDSCAPING

Landscaping:
I am in another state, but not in Angola.
I never claimed to be an authority on landscaping, so please do not give credit
to me for which I have never asked for.
My question is: Who or what are College Cutters? Who made the deal with
them?
By the way Steve, I am getting my hands extremely dirty taking care of my
own backyard.
Apparently you do not read and comprehend the English language very well.
I never said that everything that was wrong in the NSNA was your fault.
I am just tired of you blowing your own horn. Learn to delegate authority and
you won?’t have to do everything yourself. Take a page out of Tim Baker?’s
book.
The immediate fix for NSNA is for everyone to leave their personal agendas at
the door and work for a positive approach to the problems that affect us all.
Let us not be like the Big Boy Politicians and lose sight of the mission.
When I moved back to Florida in 1976, I spent approximately two weeks on a
full time basis checking out neighborhoods to purchase a home in. Obviously
North Shore was my choice. It was referred to as the Old Northeast and still is
by me. Having worked on many urban renewal projects in and around the
Washington, D.C. area, I was able to see that the Old Northeast was ready
for a major comeback, and so I paid my money and have been greatly
pleased with the outcome.
I am not interested in who did what, where or how. Kudos to those people
who do good deeds and have the time to do them.
So Steve, in closing, I say to you do what you think you have to do, but don?’t
connect me to anything that I am not connected to.
Your removal had nothing to do with me, but at least I do have the intestinal
fortitude to put my name to any comments I have to make.
Keep working on your computer skills.

To: The NSNA Board of Directors

Re: Removal of Steve Lange as President of the NSNA

I have lived in the NS neighborhood for 26 years and am a former member of the board. As such I have observed Mr. Lange?’s shenanigans since he came into the neighborhood. He is totally self-
serving and a bullying boor. He forgets that he represents the NSNA, not his personal agenda. When members are not allowed to speak at a general meeting of the membership, why have a
membership. It is time to introduce new blood into the NSNA. There have been many former members who at one time were excited about joining NSNA, becoming involved, but were turned
off by Mr. Lange and eventually left the membership. We have lost some valuable and spirited efforts of these former members ?– what a shame.

Mr. Lange has no ability to delegate. Case in Point: The replanting of the NS monuments. Mr. Lange had the opportunity to utilize the services, at no cost to the NSNA, of a professional
landscaper who was a member of the NSNA. Mr. Lange did not even have the courtesy of calling this member, but chose to spearhead the project himself.

He perpetrated the monuments of his design on us to the tune of $3,000 per square foot! Each monument was $27,000 - this is outrageous. A fancy two-car garage can easily be built for this price.

In the past, Steve Lange has been vehemently opposed to 4th Street businesses encroaching into the neighborhood. Two particular cases come to mind: Discount Auto and Amoco. I question the sudden change of heart on the CVS encroachment. Could there be some underlying sinister reason
for this new position?

Mr. Lange must go as he no longer represents the best interests of the NSNA. He has breached his fiduciary responsibility to the NSNA.

There has been too much Steve Lange control over this Association for too long! Let?’s become a more democratic and proud association.

Sincerely,

Barry Fry

By Best of . . . . .
To: Barry Fry

Several years ago you ran for the board and got on. You attended, if I remember correctly five, six maybe seven board meettings. You then abruptly resigned. I determined that you resigned because you never made a motion that the board supported. I felt that the rest of the board, like me, thought that you felt like the odd man out. I mean nobody agreed with you so you quit. (At that time I was just a board member. One of eleven.) Prior to being on the board I can not remember you doing much for North Shore except complain about the monuments. Your charge against me then as now was that I single handedly got those monuments designed, approved by North Shore, approved by the city, paid for by North Shore and the City, located and constructed. All that by myself. Amazing.

You also thought that they were exceedingly expensive. Remember, the majority of North Shore, not me, agreed to self tax themselves approximately $35 per property in order to raise about $80,000 to pay for the bulk of the monument cost. So as you can see, North Shore liked, wanted and was willing to pay for the monuments.

The truth is that the monument design went on for two years and then it took almost five more years to get them built. The Planning Commission, the Planning Department, City Council, the North Shore Board of Directors, the North Shore Planning Committee and lastly the general membership voted on those monuments. All agreed on the monument design, their costs, their locations, even the colors they were to be painted. You have blamed me for monuments that you do not like. Get over it.

Besides Barry, look at it this way. Our monuments won't fall apart like other neighborhood signs which are made of wood or plastic. Ours are built of pre-cast concrete and should last a life time. Other neighborhood associations will have to replace their signage/monuments several times over before we will ever have to think about it.

So now everyone in North Shore knows that your dislike for me goes way back to your estrangement from the board and your dislike of the monuments which you hold me personally responsible for.

As for your last posting that said ''I never said that everything that was wrong in NSNA was your fault'', you better look at your June 28th posting that ''By Best of'' was kind enough to re-post for all of us. (I was going to post it but By Best of beat me to it.)

This June 28th posting is pretty direct and pretty mean spirited. It was the sort of thing that was being written over and over again for months by a working Committee of Stop CVS'ers. Barry lets admit it. Prior to you being on the board years ago we did not know each other. While you were on the board we did not get to know each other any better. After you resigned you wasted no time berating me at every opportunity. Take this CVS issue. I do not believe you were at any of the meetings regarding Stop CVS but here you are piling on. Jumping in on June 28th to slam me good.

So Barry, what does that make you?
