Monuments/Landscaping

We're furtunate to live in such a beautiful neighborhood, and I enjoy the embellishments of the monuments and landscaped islands. The NSNA Beautification Committee, lead by Cynthia Serra, which replaces the Landscaping Committee, chaired by Steve Lange, will meet on Sept. 13 to plan for the care of these areas. We'll review the NSNA file on these projects to see what our agreements with the City are. We'll put a plan in place. In the past, a local landscaping/maintenance co. took care of the landscaping in exchange for a free ad monthly in our newsletter. That remains an option. NSNA has a fundraising event, the Candlelight Tour of Homes, and a new event, a Garden Tour, will take place for the first time this spring. We could allocate funds from the profits to take care of these responsibilities. I'm sure that Cynthia and her committee would welcome any suggestions you have regarding these areas.

Susan, the idea of possible hiring this chore out has definite promise and the board ought to seriously consider it. If there is an agreement with the city then it must be upheld. The concern is always putting such a laborious work load on people who already have little time to volunteer and is the best use of their volunteer time. And, again, caution about long term committments of this nature.
Thank you for your input and to Cynthia Serra who has taken on an unpleasant task.

Thanks for your input

Thanks, Ann. I agree that many of us have plenty of yard chores of our own, plus work, families, other volunteer work. The best solution probably is hiring this out either for pay or through a trade for ads. I also agree that the Board and the Association members have to consider the long term ramifications of taking on committments. But I'm also not sure how this one committment became such a hassle--we generate sufficient funds to have these responsibilities well-taken care of regularly.
