Curious to know....I was coming back from the Art Fair a few weeks ago, and noticed a sign up indicating yet more new condos were to be built on about 3 large lots containing 2 large homes and an old boarding house.

In order to do this, the old white house with the pillars and wrap around porch would be demolished, as well as two other homes next to it. I believe the white house is abandoned.

The location is (approximately) 3rd Ave. N. and 2nd. St. N.? Basically, it's located across from the Holiday Inn before the Central Ave. area.

Perhaps its not considered Old NE, but what a shame, the house looks like a real diamond in the rough. Maybe its too deteriorated to save? One of the other homes scheduled to be demolished (not totally sure on that, but how else will condos be put on that lot?) looked like an old boarding house also with a great porch upstairs.

It's a real shame to see so many old homes being lost in our community, regardless of the good work so many neighbors are doing to retain the historic feel of St. Pete. It seems we are about to be over-run with condos at the expenses of historic architecture.

Not trying to start a flame war, but anyone have any info on this? Is it too late to try to save these homes?

On the other hand, I guess if I had property I wanted to sell, it'd be my choice, but still...just wanted to see if anyone knew anything about this.

thanks!
try this

try contacting the NODO - North Downtown Neighborhood Association for info on those properties- they keep up with everything going on within their boundaries. Also might try contacting St. Pete Historic Preservation.
has any one tried or considered

forming a Not for Profit organization that could purchase old properties and vacant lots, refurbish them or make neighborhood parks out of them (the lots)?

Once start up funds were established the organization could support itself by buying fixing up and selling old houses.
