In 1994 businesses in our area joined together to create the SUMNER NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION, a group with financial capability, business interaction, and political impact to address many neighborhood issues.
Among our many activities have ben graffiti stakeouts in cooperation with the Denver Police netting several arrest and warnings, graffiti and gang education by the Denver Police Gang Unit, and increased involvement with the neighborhood police resulting in increased patrols and police knowledge of our neighborhood. As a result, we have greatly reduced graffiti and break-ins. We have obtained additional street lighting, persuaded the City to fence the east side of Lipan under the 6th Ave. viaduct, and waged war on illegal dumping. Most importantly, we have become acquainted with our neighbors creating an effective communications network to deal with crime on a block by block basis.
We strongly believe that by businesses working together, we can improve our area and create a positive impact benefiting our businesses, our property values, the safety of our employees and customers and the surrounding neighborhood.
