On Monday, October 26 we will be having a Charter Club meeting at 10 a.m. in the Ballroom to go over all club business and related questions. In the meantime the following items require immediate attention:
· Club Vendors - Instructors/Performers/Speakers: If a vendor will be paid for services rendered a contract and appropriate liability insurance ($1 million with SCSHCA and PCM named as additionally insured) must be submitted to the Board of Directors for review and signature prior to any promotion. Please submit these requests at least 2 months prior to the required date of services.
· Alcohol Beverages – Alcoholic beverages will not be consumed during conduct of normal club Lifestyle in all Community Association facilities. For special functions, arrangements may be made for the sale of alcoholic beverages through caterers who have obtained a special event liquor license. (Charter club rules and regulations page 17, 10.A.)
The distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages at Sun City Shadow Hills is controlled and regulated by the California State Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC). The following is the ABC policy as it relates to Sun City Shadow Hills facilities: Alcoholic beverages may only be sold by a licensee. The license covers the entire clubhouse area, through the pool areas, tennis courts, on to the Pro Shop, Shadow Hills Golf Club and Golf Course. It is against the law for anyone other than an ABC licensed business to sell alcoholic beverages of any kind. It is against the law for anyone to bring their own bottle of spirits (whiskey, scotch, rum, etc.) or beer into the Clubhouse. When it comes to wine, we are able to allow bottles to be brought into the facility for consumption, but only if the Community Association collects a “corkage fee”. Prior arrangements with the Association is required. However, even though a corkage fee is paid, the group or individual may not sell wine by the glass or bottle, but may consume it only. This law pertains to the entire State of California.
BYOB
Michael Bard from Sun City Shadow Hills
On our main site, Richard Herwig posted that our ABC laws and our Chartered Club Rules prohibit BYOB . Section 25604 of California ABC Laws makes it clear that BYOB is permissible if the owner of the premises has an ABC license. There need not be a corkage or other charge. Inasmuch as our Association owns our F&B facilities, and until recently operated them through PCM, I would hope we have any necessary ABC licenses. Chartered Club Rules 17A requires a Special Events ABC licensed vendor. Like our self-imposed exclusivity F&B contract with WGP, our Chartered Club Rules can be amended with the stroke of a pen. So if you want BYOB, demand and vote for it. Stop letting people who are supposed to be working for you from controlling what you do. Stop listening to all the self-appointed purveyors of nonsense.
