The Land Use Subcommittee is in the process of conducting several workshops for the area surrounding the LRT stations along the Folsom Boulevard corridor (see schedule below). These are public meetings, and community residents or interested individuals are welcome to participate in this exciting new land use planning project that uses computer modeling to illustrate the impacts of various land use/transportation scenarios. Eliot Allen with Criterion Planners/Engineers developed the model, known as the Sacramento INDEX. It is a GIS-based tool for land use/transportation sketch modeling, and measures the outcome of various land use scenarios using 50 different widely accepted indicators of land use and urban design. The model brings together land use data, property values, retail trends, residential demographics, GIS mapping information, transit routes, pedestrian access and landmark sites. The Air District, Regional Transit, and the Point West Area TMA have already used this model for such areas as the North Natomas Community Plan, and the Swanston and 65th Street LRT stations.

Mr. Allen will facilitate these workshops, sponsored by the Sacramento County Planning Department and the Citizens?’ Advisory Committees for the Cordova Community Plan Update, for the purpose of developing various land use/transportation options for a one-half mile radius surrounding the LRT stations along the Folsom Boulevard corridor. The workshops will focus on those areas surrounding the existing Butterfield and Mather Field LRT stations; and the proposed Zinfandel, Kilgore, and Sunrise LRT stations. The outcome of these workshops will be used to help develop recommendations for land use/transportation planning and urban design standards that promote multimodal travel, help improve and protect air quality, and revitalize land uses within the Folsom Boulevard corridor.
