Tenting your Home
From the Evelyn City Group: Crime Tip Bulletin The Tampa Police Department often times takes burglary reports involving the burglary of structures that are being ?“tented?” for pests. Entering a chemically treated structure is very dangerous and foolish, however, some burglars use this cover as an opportunity for thievery. Please read the tips below to protect your home in the event you, family members, or friends need their homes tented. SAFETY TIPS ?˜ Text Box: Do not leave valuables in your home unsecured (Jewelry, coin collections, etc.). ?˜ Drive by your residence while it is being tented and look for tears in the tent that may show signs of a burglary, check front, sides & back. ?˜ As soon as it is safe for you to enter the home, check for any missing property. ?˜ Ask your trusted neighbors to keep an eye on your home while you are away. ?˜ Participate in Operation Inventory ?– Keep a copy of your inventory, receipts, and pictures of valuables in a separate location (family, friends, safety deposit box, etc.) The form can be found at www.tampagov.net/police or call the crime prevention team at 931-6541and one can be mailed to you. ?˜ Don?’t forget to secure your shed and other structures. ?˜ Call the District Two office at 931-6500 and request for extra patrols to do building checks. The officers assigned to your area will attempt to check for any signs of burglary during their shift (time permitting). ?˜ Consider hiring a security officer or extra-duty police officer to patrol your residence ?˜ Call the police if you see anything suspicious. |

Please be aware.
Please be aware. School is still out and the criminals are too. During the summer months when our grasses tend to grow higher, possible would be burglars use that opportunity to case homes. Alert your neighbors to this scenario which actually took place here in district two. Two young men knocked on the front door of a home. When the resident answered the knock and opened the door, the two young persons asked to mow the lawn with the womans own lawnmower. She gave them money to do the job, but then soon left to run an errand. When she returned from the errand, her lawn was not mowed, and her home was burglarized. It is suspected the 2 young men broke into the home and stole her jewelry. They never were admitted into the home, and were never given permission to enter. The suspects left one of their hats on the victim's counter, strangely enough the hat that was left on the counter happened to be a hat that one of the boys was wearing. It is a quess that if she had not been home in the first place, the boys would have still broken into the home. They knock just to make sure no one is home, but if someone is, they ask to cut the lawn. Variations of this scenario are possible of course, so as always, encourage your neighbors to report suspicious behavior, and sometimes even non-suspicious behavior can actually be a crime in progress. Continue looking out for one-another, and Thank You!
