DILAPIDATED DWELLINGS - Housing Division, 862-6590

Dwellings which are in need of repair or demolition will be inspected and placed under a Code Repair or
Code Demolition action. (Code Demolition is recommended when the estimated cost of repairs exceeds
50% of the property value).

Complaints regarding the general condition of a property, i.e. leaking roof, no heat, defective electrical, plumbing or mechanical systems, and the exterior and interior condition of the premises, should be referred to the Codes Department Housing Division at 862﷓6590.

YARD AREAS - Housing Division, 862-6590

The Metropolitan Housing Code states that it is unlawful for an owner or an occupant of a residential building to utilize the premises for open storage of any abandoned motor vehicle, icebox, refrigerator, stove, glass, building materials, building rubbish or similar items. Further, it is the responsibility that an owner or occupant keep the premises clean and remove all abandoned items as listed above, included but not limited to weeds, dead trees, trash, garbage, etc.

Note: Any vacant lot having high grass, weeds, trash, debris, or illegal dumping should be referred to the Metropolitan Health Department ﷓ 862﷓5900.

(Housing Division - 862-6590)Any vehicle that "is in an obvious state of disrepair and is incapable of moving under its own power" is defined as an abandoned vehicle. Such vehicles cannot be openly stored on private property. Vehicles having flat tires, busted windows, no engines are considered inoperable, and must either be repaired or removed from the residential premises.
