Sylvan Park

Perhaps drawn by the spook houses at Elkins and Park avenues, a growing number of out-of-neighborhood big kids have been causing some problems at Halloween. Nothing big, but a nuisance nonetheless.

We'd like them to think this is NOT a good neighborhood to return to for that.

If you can help us with our BOLO (Be On the LookOut) patrol effort for Halloween this year, let me know. We're looking for Sylvan Park residents who can spare an hour or so this Halloween night to cruise with a BOLO member or two around our neighborhood, on the lookout for reportable trouble.

This is not an enforcement operation, only watch and report. We will have cell phones in all cars. Our police precinct knows about us.

Went well

We had over half-a-dozen folks out in cars slowly going through our neighborhood last night with BOLO patrol insignias on. Only problem we had was one guy with a guilty conscience. Seemed to be fewer ''big kids'' looking to cause mischief than in past years. Crowd practically blocked the entire road at Elkins where the most lavishly decorated houses were. Other areas of the neighborhood were almost empty.
