Possible theft of personal information over wireless network
One of our neighbors reported that as he was walking on the south end of Wellington/Idledale in the evening (Labor Day weekend), he noticed a small green Chevy truck (CO license 452 PMG) parked by the side of the road.
The driver had shoulder length, dark greasy hair, and he was hunched over a laptop while seated in the driver's seat. He was estimated to be about 45-50 years old. Our neighbor startled him, and the guy tossed the laptop into the passenger seat, and drove off quickly. This incident has been reported to the sheriff's department. The thought is he was freeloading on someone's wireless connection, attempting to steal information, or possibly writing down information about the houses here.
Computer hackers and identity thieves do some of their work by trying to access personal records through unprotected wireless connections.
The sheriff's department is pleased that we have a Neighborhood Watch program. They are encouraging us to be vigilant, and bold, about reporting suspicious behavior. Thanks for your participation, and your concern for our neighborhood!
