  • Respect-O-Meter: Respected Neighbor
I have been privileged to observe the organizing of Grant Park from a starting point last year where it looked like it just couldn't be done. At your first meeting there were only a handful of you and that handful seemed hesitant to voice any concerns. Thanks to the efforts and tenacity of a few good people, you have come a long way. The staff from the Department of Corrections, Officer Ed Anctil and Officer Gene King have shown us that interagency partnership is possible and effective, as well. But they are the tools with which you need to be working, albeit exceptional tools, and you have to be the mechanics who use the tools well. It is sometimes frustrating when you try to organize a community and it seems that you just can't get the necessary commitment from your neighbors. Grant Park shares that frustration with all neighborhood organizations, and like any neighborhood where success is achieved, you can't let it stop you. Your numbers will grow as your goals begin to be realized. There is usually one person who just won't give up. Bob Codere is one of those people. Officer King is one. Officer Anctil is one. And you, too, can be One. Grant Park is your community, your home. Don't think that your one voice can't make a difference. It can. And it should. Support your neighborhood by attending the Association meetings and helping to set and realize your goals. You could be the one to make the difference.
