home security
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- May 17, 2007 Hi Michael As watch coordinator, I can not recommend a specific company. Most well known national security companys are ok. Local companies might be ok too. First check out the company. Do on line research as well as checking with with the better business bureau. If you contact me, I will give my personal views on the company that I use. Lately, we have had people going door to door selling alarm systems. Do not let them in your house. Check out the company, before you let them inside your house. Lastly, you can call the District 2 office of the Tampa Police Department Crime Prevention Team and have them do a free security survey on you house. Hope this helps. jerry keith Forst Hills Neighborhood Watch Coordinator |

Got one
I called USSA who insures my home and I went with who they reccomended. Going with them (ADT) lowers my monthly insurence bill, I get a lower per month bill from ADT and I get a lower first time installation. *Also, if anyone is looking into getting a system I reccomend getting the basic system. Its not that much overly priced compared to doing it yourself. The system usaly comes with only 3 contacts. Where they make most of their money is the additional contacts for the remaining windows, doors, smoke, motoin..etc. What you do is find out what system the provider usally installs and read up on it. What they do is during their installation they put in a installer code so you cant get back into the system to add components and they only give you the user guide and not the installation/programming guide. What you do is ask to watch them install it. My installer wrote the number on his note pad. I just saw it and quickly typed it into my cell phone. Worste case if you cant get the number is that you power down the system with the back up battery detached and reboot. You can find the installer/programming guide online, just do a google search and you should be able to find a PDF. Dont pay for it keep searching untill you find a free one. This is what you would save. They charge $64 dollers per contact. I have found them online for $30 dollers and found them on ebay NEW for about $20 dollers. Doing 20+ windows/doors saves you a ton. ***Not for the avg joe. It is difficult, you have to sit down with the manual and read it cover to cover. If you mess up it will cause false alarms and you will have to pay for the tech to come out and I am sure they will charge you a diffrent rate since it is your fault. By Michael |
